Real Baghdad

Reading Notes # 9 Razi

This reading contained articles or posts that relate to the war with Iraq and in Iraq. These are truly sad stories to read, however they do inform us of some reality from people who experienced many of those atrocities closely. The reason many of these bloggers are trying to inform and mend each other in some kind of support is because they feel lost and helpless and definitely outraged. Articles from these bloggers show only one thesis a war that is overdone.

The feeling of being oppressed has long surpassed the civilians of Baghdad. Many of these articles give a sense of hopelessness in regards to the “Supposed Help” Iraq is supposed to get. American troops firing from one side, the big external power control itself and on the other hand are waiting the sectarian militia that gives no regard to a fellow citizen. Theme is very clear in these blogs, its all about powerlessness. Not only have the Americans started a war that is unleaded and without a specific motive but they began to commit atrocities on local civilians such as open firing, bombing by a mosque, rape and the list continues according to many blogs. And then they allowed or initiated sectarian militia, which is among the ruthless of militant groups on the globe. This whole genocide of a whole generation of people began with the divide and rule ideology of the Americans, just to quench the immediate thirst for fuel is very “Ugly”.

I have heard something similar of methodologies being used to control India by the Britisher’s during the 1940’s. They used similar tactics to diverge attention of people and cause a religious war for more than a decade. However, the method was identified, which is why it didn’t work so far and India gained independence from British control. These blogs open up a number of discussions such as whether the US soldiers really want to be out there and shoot people? Meaning if they even care about what they are doing? My project about similar stories would be about Psychology behind military soldiers or history behind the genocidal conquering in the modern world. I did not find any unfamiliar words that are so uncommon.
